Description

The restinga del Faro is a rock formation belonging to the Tandilia System that is located about 500 meters off the coast of Punta Mogotes Lighthouse in Mar del Plata, General Pueyrredón district. In this area is located the only semi-soft reef formation known for the Province of Buenos Aires. It also contains the only two-furred sea lion rookery in the province.

Conservation Objectives

Restinga del Faro is a rock formation belonging to the Tandilia System that is located about 500 meters off the coast of the Punta Mogotes Lighthouse in Mar del Plata, district of General Pueyrredon. It covers an approximate area of about 7 square kilometers. This reserve protects the only semi-soft reef formation known in the province of Buenos Aires, inhabited by a particular invertebrate fauna. It is the only place in the province where you can see a rookery of the South American fur seals.
